English Fundamentals is the first course of the integrated-skills basic cycle of the Academic English Support Program (AESP). This course focuses on the basic development of basic skills in English, essential grammar structures, and vocabulary required for effective communication in general and academic contexts at an early A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course provides an initial opportunity to develop basic reading skills of everyday and academic texts for learners to cope with academic and professional tasks in English at an early stage. English Fundamentals provides an entry for students to start discussing aspects of their routines, background, context, and matters in areas of immediate need in simple terms by using the task-based language learning approach to understand texts, speeches, graphs, and diagrams related to academic and everyday matters, to convey relevant information contained in simple, informational texts. Besides, the course offers learners basic critical thinking skills and strategies to properly start their autonomous language learning process.
