English 2 is the third course of the integrated-skills basic cycle of the Academic English Support Program (AESP). This course focuses on the consolidation of basic skills in English, essential grammar structures, and vocabulary required for effective communication in general and academic contexts at an early A2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course progresses in the emphasis on developing reading skills of everyday and academic texts for learners to complete academic and professional tasks in English in an effective manner. English 02 prepares students to effectively discuss aspects of their routines, background, context, and matters in areas of immediate need in simple terms by using the task-based language learning approach to understand texts, speeches, graphs, and diagrams related to academic and everyday matters, to convey relevant information contained in clearly structured, short, simple, informational texts. Besides, the course fosters the consolidation of critical thinking skills through opportunities to perform informed analyses and reflections on the issues presented along the course, and the use of strategies for autonomous language learning.
